DeepSeek and Huawei are working on next-generation AI chip designs intended to reduce reliance on Nvidia hardware as U.S. export controls restrict access to advanced chips.

Huawei engineers have examined DeepSeek's model architecture and algorithms and tested how chips handle data movement and compression. The first chip targeted for adaptation is Huawei's Ascend 950DT.

The Ascend 950DT is planned for release in 2027, though mass production could slip to 2028.

DeepSeek is adopting TileLang to work around CUDA restrictions.
