Taiko Gives Block Proposers 100% of Its Layer 2 Base Fee
The Oct. 19 governance change removes a cost hurdle for proposers that may cover users’ fees. It does not launch gasless transactions.

Taiko has increased block proposers’ share of its layer 2 base fee to 100%, removing a cost hurdle for proposers that may cover that fee on a user’s behalf.
The Ethereum layer 2 network executed the governance change on Oct. 19. A proposer that covers a user’s base fee can now receive the full amount through the fee allocation. The 100% share applies specifically to the L2 base fee, not to every transaction charge.
The change adjusts the economics of a potential sponsored transaction, in which someone other than the user pays a fee. It does not launch gasless transactions or make transactions free for users.
The same proposal updated the trusted proof-verification identifiers for raiko2 v0.9.0 across RISC0, SP1 and SGX. Proofs tied to the superseded identifiers are no longer accepted.
