Bitget said it had stored only public data and no sensitive business data on TiDB Cloud, a database service its Greater China head said had been breached.

Bitget Greater China head Xie Jiayin said Oct. 20 that attackers had accessed data in PingCAP’s TiDB Cloud platform. The service was one of several outside data providers Bitget had used.

Bitget said it stored only some public data on the platform. The exchange said it had placed no sensitive business data there and had stopped using the service more than two months earlier.

TiDB Cloud is PingCAP’s managed cloud database service. The distinction between public data and sensitive business data is central to Bitget’s assessment of the incident’s effect on users.

Bitget said the incident would have no effect on the exchange or its users. It plans to keep monitoring security developments with its partners and strengthen its controls over outside technology suppliers.
