Qubic has restarted its blockchain and opened recovery claims after a wallet flaw let an attacker drain about $1.4 million in Qubic (QU) tokens from 1,404 accounts.

The network resumed processing transactions on Oct. 19 after its validators, known as Computors, approved a recovery plan. Validators had halted the chain on Oct. 18 to prevent further movement of the stolen funds. Transaction processing has since advanced beyond the point where the chain stopped.

Affected holders can check their addresses and submit claims through Qubic's reclaim platform. The claims process gives wallet owners a way to seek recovery following the validator vote.

The attacker exploited predictable wallet seeds generated by vulnerable web wallet software on certain Apple devices and browsers. A wallet seed is used to generate the credentials that control a wallet. The flaw was in wallet creation, prompting Qubic to release web wallet version 4.26.4 with a fix on Oct. 19.

Qubic urged people who created a wallet with an earlier web wallet version to use the updated software to create a new wallet and move any remaining funds, even if their old wallet was not drained. Affected holders have until May 1, 2027, to file a recovery claim.
