NEAR Issuance Vote Closes Nov. 2 With Supermajority Required

The vote ends at 11:48 a.m. ET (16:48 UTC). Approval would not change issuance until a protocol upgrade is completed and adopted by validators.

The House of Stake vote on reducing issuance of the NEAR token (NEAR) closes Nov. 2 at 11:48 a.m. ET (16:48 UTC), with a supermajority required to advance the proposed supply change.

The plan calls for a 90-day grace period after ratification before the gradual reduction begins.

Newly issued tokens would continue to be allocated 90% to staking participants and 10% to the protocol treasury. Slower issuance would reduce dilution for holders who do not stake, while reducing the new tokens available for staking rewards.

Using the staking ratio measured Sept. 22, the plan models gross staking yield falling from 5.268% to 3.372% at the target issuance rate. The yield when that rate is reached would depend on how much NEAR is staked.

A successful vote would not itself change issuance. A specification must be finalized, and a protocol upgrade must be implemented, tested and released before validators can adopt it. The first decision is the House of Stake vote, which closes Nov. 2.
