Large amounts of Nvidia GPU equipment are idle in transit warehouses as multiple AWS sites face power shortages, delaying deployment of hardware included in Amazon's planned rack purchases.

Amazon's early-receipt plan calls for about $5 billion in Nvidia GB300 server racks for deployment to U.S. data centers. It also calls for roughly $3 billion in additional hardware purchases each month going forward.

Earlier coverage of Amazon's rack plan described the figures as rack deliveries. The $5 billion amount refers to planned early receipt, while $3 billion a month refers to planned hardware purchases.

Possible system design flaws may also prevent deployment, alongside power constraints at multiple AWS sites.
