Bittensor Launches eTAO to Let Subnet Owners Set Token Payouts
Subnets previously used a fixed split: 18% for owners, 41% for validators and their stakers, and 41% for miners.

Bittensor has launched eTAO, allowing subnet owners to set how newly issued alpha tokens are divided among owners, validators and miners under limits designed to protect root-network stakers.
The previous default sent 18% of a subnet’s alpha emissions to its owner, 41% to validators and their stakers, and 41% to miners. Owners can now assign themselves 0% to 33%, give validators up to 50% and leave miners at least 33%. Subnets created through a lease must keep at least 18% for the owner.
An owner could keep 18%, reduce the validator share to 20% and raise the miner share to 62%. To preserve the root network’s share for Bittensor (TAO) stakers, eTAO adjusts a subnet’s effective TAO weight when an owner changes the split. Validators have a variable minimum allocation designed to protect the root network.
Changing the split does not change the total alpha emissions a subnet receives. Existing subnets retain their allocations until their owners adjust them, and owners can make a change about once every seven days.
