BitGo has launched BitGo Labs, a research unit that will focus first on artificial intelligence and crypto, aiming to build digital-asset applications for payments, settlement and other financial uses.

The unit began with several projects, including Gokubu, a consumer app that is already available. Gokubu uses an AI-powered card to optimize users’ spending and can assign users a personalized AI financial assistant to help them get better rewards and value from transactions.

BitGo plans to publish research reports, protocol prototypes and reference implementations. It also plans to work with developers, academics and institutions across the crypto and AI communities as the division builds and validates digital-asset applications. BitGo aims to use AI to build applications in months rather than years.

BitGo’s initial thesis is that crypto can unlock financial functions such as interest and yield that traditional systems cannot provide. The company also identifies micropayments, immediate settlement and asset security as infrastructure needs for an AI economy.
