Meta’s Muse showed an average retention advantage of about five percentage points over ChatGPT and Claude in one four-week comparison, while a separate September cohort put ChatGPT ahead by day 14.

The four-week comparison checked return rates one, two, three and four weeks after installation. Muse’s cohort consisted of September installers; the ChatGPT and Claude benchmark averaged users who installed from January through September. Muse led by about five percentage points on average across the weekly checks. Because the install periods differ, the comparison does not line up the apps across the same cohort.

A separate comparison of September 2026 installs across 81 countries showed day-14 retention of 22.5% for Muse and 26.8% for ChatGPT. ChatGPT moved ahead between days eight and nine. That comparison covers September installs for both apps, unlike the four-week comparison’s longer install period for ChatGPT and Claude.

Average time spent in ChatGPT and Claude rose among people who installed Muse, while those users spent more time in Muse than in either rival. The time-spent finding is separate from the weekly retention figures and does not change the difference between the two retention comparisons.

Earlier U.S. retention figures put Muse at 30% after seven days and 23% after 14 days, compared with averages of 19% and 16% for ChatGPT, Claude and Grok. Those figures cover U.S. users and include Grok, while the four-week comparison covers September Muse installers against ChatGPT and Claude users from January through September.

The results describe different groups and measurement periods, so they do not establish one overall retention ranking. The 81-country comparison and the earlier U.S. figures also cover different geographic scopes.

Meta introduced Muse on Sept. 8 as a personal AI agent that works across connected apps and can continue tasks after a user closes the app. It can take actions in apps users connect and return when it needs approval.
