OpenAI’s Rosalind Academic Plan gives eligible U.S. university labs a no-cost seat package, while separate screening governs access to GPT-Rosalind and monitoring of sensitive research.

Labs can receive up to 30 Business Standard seats for up to 12 months at no cost. The seats do not automatically permit GPT-Rosalind use, which requires separate trusted-access approval. The academic seat offer covers the plan’s sponsored seats.

A principal investigator or lab lead may apply for a lab. OpenAI reviews the lab’s affiliation, research activities and intended use, along with the applicant’s identity, professional background and authority to oversee access. After activation, it monitors use and applies additional checks to registered high-sensitivity research.

GPT-Rosalind is designed for life sciences research. Its Rosalind Workbench connects tools for medicinal chemistry, genomics and wet-lab workflows. The plan is limited to university labs in the United States, and OpenAI has not announced a timeline for broader academic availability. Labs at universities with an existing OpenAI Enterprise agreement use their institution’s access process.
