Crypto AI Gateways Recorded $3,800 in x402 Model Payments
Venice AI accounted for 83% of a broader $8.7 million tally, which combined observed payments with estimates.

Crypto AI gateways using x402 recorded about $3,800 in model payments over 30 days, a small share of an estimated $8.7 million tally dominated by Venice AI.
The measurement period ran from Sept. 13 through Oct. 12, 2026. The tally covered 130 Web3 AI projects and combined blockchain receipts and token burns, x402 settlements, project settlement records and supplier activity estimates. It excluded OpenRouter’s own activity, DIEM credit consumption and figures based only on project self-reports. Because the methods vary, the $8.7 million total measures tracked or estimated payments rather than total industry revenue.
Venice AI accounted for an estimated $7.2 million, or 83% of the tally. The tally inferred roughly $7.2 million in API credit sales from 71,958 credit-related burns valued at about $359,800. Venice’s credit policy directs $5 of each $100 spent on credits toward buying and burning Venice Token (VVV). The estimate represents API credit sales, not all of Venice AI’s business.
The x402 figure covers pay-per-use model gateways. At Venice, the tally attributed about $3,100 of estimated credit sales to x402, less than 0.05% of the company’s estimated credit sales. Agent platforms and AI applications each brought in less than $1,000, while the other projects combined for about $1.5 million.
Token volume and payments measure different activity. Surplus Intelligence processed 4.17 trillion tokens during the period, while the tally recorded $128,000 in on-chain payments to sellers. Supplier activity estimates also capture model usage without showing every provider’s payment details.
Each staked DIEM provides $1 in daily API credits, and the tally excluded DIEM credit consumption from paid usage. The figures add detail to the tally of 130 crypto AI projects, while showing how token processing volume and observable payments can diverge.
