Zipcoin Shuts Down After Code Repository Breach
The project offered holders a six-hour sale window and scheduled a sale of its remaining holdings for noon ET Oct. 22 (16:00 UTC).

Zipcoin is shutting down after its code repository was compromised, a breach that may have affected credentials and private keys. The team could not find a secure way to continue operating.
The meme coin, built around a Vitalik novel narrative, said Railway notified it on Oct. 21 that the project’s full codebase had been breached. Zipcoin said it tried to move or rotate credentials but could not find a workable operating plan. The announcement did not confirm that credentials or private keys had been accessed; it said they may have been affected.
The team planned to give current holders a six-hour window to sell. It also planned to sell its remaining holdings and consolidate the proceeds to prevent an attacker from moving assets. That step was scheduled for midnight Beijing time on Oct. 23, or noon ET Oct. 22 (16:00 UTC). The plan combined a limited period for holders with an effort to secure the remaining funds.
