1Password Adds User Approval Before AI Agents Use Saved Logins

The service fills approved credentials into websites while keeping passwords and one-time codes from the agent.

1Password announced the service Oct. 22, saying supported AI agents can request credentials saved in a user’s vault. The user can review a credential request on their device and approve or deny it. Once approved, 1Password fills the login into the destination site’s sign-in form, without giving the agent the password or one-time code.

Each connected agent has its own digital key for identification, and linking an agent does not give it access to the entire vault. After signing in, an agent may still view information or take actions within that account, depending on the agent and website. How often users must approve requests varies by integration.

Muse and SpaceXSI Grok Bot are rolling out over the coming days. Claude Duet, ChatGPT Work and dots, and Town Townie’s web and iOS integrations are listed as coming soon. 1Password also lists Instinct, Browserbase, Browser Use, Dana, KERNEL, Perplexity, Ramp, Tomo and Wajo as coming soon.

The service is included at no additional cost for Individual and Family accounts on 1Password.com. Accounts on 1Password.eu and 1Password.ca are not supported.

In July, 1Password and Anthropic announced a Claude browser integration for Mac that lets the assistant use approved credentials without receiving them.
