Ordinals advocate Leonidas asked OpenSea on Oct. 22 to add support for Bitcoin-native inscriptions and Runes, after the marketplace’s mobile app launch described trading across more than 25 blockchains without naming Bitcoin.

OpenSea announced Oct. 20 that its app was live for iOS and Android and offered trading in tokens and collectibles across more than 25 blockchains. The announcement did not identify Bitcoin as a supported network. The company’s compatibility guide also omits Bitcoin, but its update marker is more than three weeks old and may not reflect the complete current network list.

Leonidas’ request covers two Bitcoin-based formats with different mechanics. Ordinals inscriptions associate content with individual satoshis, which can move in Bitcoin transactions. Runes are interchangeable units: Bitcoin transactions can etch them, mint units and transfer them. Runes protocol messages are stored in transaction outputs, while inscriptions attach content to satoshis. The request therefore spans both unique artifacts and interchangeable units.

An app’s support for tokens and collectibles across many blockchains does not by itself show that it can handle Bitcoin-native assets. OpenSea’s Oct. 20 announcement gave a network count but no Bitcoin-specific compatibility details. The older guide provides another reference, though its age limits what it establishes about OpenSea’s current network support.

Leonidas’ post is a request, not a product announcement. OpenSea’s Oct. 20 announcement and compatibility guide do not confirm support for Ordinals or Runes or provide a release date.
