Canva Makes Craft Image Generator Available Through Its Public API

Craft plans an image before rendering it. An API generation takes an estimated 50 to 60 seconds from start to finish, including the planning stage.

Canva announced Thursday, Oct. 22, that Canva Craft is available globally through its public API, giving developers another way to use the image generator alongside Dream Lab.

Canva Craft is the company’s first image-generation foundation model built and trained from scratch by Canva Research. One model maps the prompt’s elements, their positions and relative sizes, visual hierarchy and requested text. A second model renders the image from that plan.

An API generation takes an estimated 50 to 60 seconds from start to finish, including the planning stage. Craft can generate images at resolutions up to 2K and in more than 30 aspect ratios.

The public API expands on Canva’s initial Craft rollout, which introduced the model through Dream Lab and described API access as planned. Craft is now available globally through both Dream Lab and the API.
