港交所, Hong Kong's exchange operator, is working toward a 2027 pilot to test the use of commodity warehouse receipts as collateral. The project would involve designated banks and distributed ledger technology (DLT), a shared digital record system.

The operator is also developing a multi-asset tokenization platform that would include commodity warehouse receipts from recognized warehouses.

许正宇, Hong Kong's secretary for financial services and the treasury, said the city's tokenization efforts are moving from experimentation toward implementation. Hong Kong has more than 1,400 fintech companies, including eight virtual banks, four virtual insurers and 12 licensed virtual asset trading platforms.
