Paradigm partner and Chief Technology Officer Georgios Konstantopoulos said evm2 has completed an audit, includes a built-in just-in-time (JIT) compiler and is intended for use across Ethereum projects.

Konstantopoulos said evm2 is intended to become the EVM for Foundry, Reth, Tempo and other projects using Paradigm’s technology stack. The Ethereum Virtual Machine is the software environment that runs smart contracts on Ethereum and compatible networks.

Foundry is a framework for developing Ethereum smart contracts, while Reth is an Ethereum execution client. Tempo is a payments blockchain incubated by Stripe and Paradigm. All three currently use revm, another EVM implementation written in Rust.

Developers can customize evm2’s opcodes, gas rules, transaction types and precompiled contracts without changing its core code. The implementation can execute up to twice as fast as revm. Its code is publicly available on GitHub.
