Musk Says Humanoid Robots Could Number 100 Million by 2031

He projected AI could surpass one person’s intelligence by 2026 or 2027 and humanity’s combined intelligence by 2030 or 2031.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the global humanoid robot count could reach at least 100 million within five years of Oct. 26, 2026, a scale he said could reshape work and economic output. He projected the count could exceed 1 billion within 10 years.

Musk said AI could surpass an individual person’s intelligence in 2026 or 2027 and humanity’s collective intelligence in 2030 or 2031. He described superintelligence as potentially thousands of times more intelligent than humans.

Musk estimated that digital superintelligence alone could lift global economic output by 20% to 30%, or about $30 trillion a year. If humanoid robots were widely deployed and space resources developed, he said, the global economy could theoretically expand by a factor of 1 million.

In that future, Musk said, people might work for personal interest rather than to meet basic needs, and traditional money could become less important. TokenPost previously covered his view on AI and robots reducing the importance of conventional money.

Musk said humanity may be more likely to be ignored by superintelligence than controlled by AI, and that superintelligence probably would not actively seek control of human society. He argued AI development should emphasize curiosity and truth seeking to reduce unpredictable behavior caused by conflicting rules.
