Casa Chief Security Officer Jameson Lopp said Monday that quantum computing is not an immediate threat to Bitcoin (BTC), describing a machine capable of cracking the algorithm that secures Bitcoin as far from practical use.

“We are orders of magnitudes away from a real usable quantum computer that can crack the algorithm that is used to secure your Bitcoin,” Lopp said.

Lopp has separately discussed how AI-assisted discovery of flaws in wallets and other software can expose funds without breaking Bitcoin’s cryptographic assumptions, a risk he covered in earlier comments on software vulnerabilities.
