Cisco is developing a task-specific access system with Teleport for network teams and AI agents, recording sessions on Cisco routers and switches and ending privileges when each session closes.

Cisco announced Privileged Infrastructure Access on Oct. 26. Its design uses cryptographic identity and short-lived permissions to limit administrators, delegated AI agents and automation scripts to the privileges needed for a task. Activity is linked to the actor using the access.

Organizations using Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) and Terminal Access Controller Access-Control System Plus (TACACS+) can draw on existing policy and device context. “If there is no work being done, no privilege exists,” said Matt Caulfield, Cisco vice president of product management.

Cisco and Teleport announced their strategic partnership Aug. 25, naming privileged access for network and infrastructure administrators as its first use case. Privileged Infrastructure Access is being developed under that partnership.

Cisco has not announced a release date, price or general availability schedule for the system.
