Akash Governance Vote Proposes Moving Network to Solana

The proposal would allow a 1:1 token transfer after audits. A separate vote would be needed to set a marketplace cutover.

Akash Network's Proposal 346 would move the network from its Cosmos sovereign chain to Solana and authorize a two-year, one-way AKT migration portal after a vote and audits.

Voting opened Monday, Oct. 26, at 11:02 a.m. ET (15:02 UTC) and is scheduled to close Monday, Nov. 2, at 10:02 a.m. ET (15:02 UTC). A tally on Oct. 27 showed about 98.29% support.

If the proposal passes and audits of the token and migration portal are completed, AKT would launch on Solana as an SPL token. The audits are expected to take two to three weeks. The portal would allow transfers at a 1:1 ratio and retain AKT's ticker. Holders with staked AKT would first need to complete a 21-day unbonding period.

Proposal 346 sets no date for the market cutover. Akash's plan requires a separate cutover proposal for that migration. The vote advances Akash's earlier selection of Solana for a planned move from Cosmos.

Akash cited operating costs under load, the absence of a single operator and Solana's concentration of decentralized physical infrastructure projects as reasons for choosing the network.
