Bithumb Says Staff System Breach Was Separate From Trading Platform
The South Korean exchange is investigating whether customer information was taken and has reported no crypto losses.

South Korean crypto exchange Bithumb said an intruder breached a mobile system used by employees and stole personal information, while the company investigates whether any customer data was included.
Bithumb found the intrusion Tuesday, Oct. 27, and notified the Korean Internet Security Agency and the Personal Information Protection Commission. The compromised mobile service supports employees’ office work and communications. Bithumb said it operates separately from the trading platform.
Bithumb said the intrusion did not give attackers access to customers’ crypto assets, and no crypto losses have been reported. The exchange has not disclosed how many people were affected or whether deposits and withdrawals were disrupted.
The investigation is examining the scope of the information theft and whether customer records were involved. Bithumb has not provided an affected-person count. The company’s review remains focused on what personal information was taken and whether any of it belonged to customers.
