MetaMask is partnering with the Stellar Development Foundation to make Stellar a default network in its mobile app and browser extension, giving existing account holders a Stellar address derived from their recovery phrases without extra setup.

Each existing account will receive an address generated from its current recovery phrase. Users with Stellar accounts can import their recovery phrases into MetaMask to move those accounts.

MetaMask Chief Product Officer Gal Eldar framed the integration as part of the company’s “Open Money” strategy, which aims to extend the same payment infrastructure to all users. The Stellar network is open source and designed for financial products and services. The integration went live Oct. 29.
