The attack exposed names, email addresses and mobile phone numbers. Bithumb and Mirae Asset Global Investments also had separate cybersecurity incidents Wednesday.

A cyberattack at Daishin Securities exposed the names, email addresses and mobile phone numbers of 38,490 customers, as South Korea’s financial sector faced separate incidents at crypto exchange Bithumb and Mirae Asset Global Investments on Wednesday.
Daishin has notified affected customers, is cooperating with authorities and will compensate for losses as required by law. The cause of the latest incidents remains under investigation.
Neither Bithumb nor Mirae Asset Global Investments has confirmed that customer data was taken in its separate cybersecurity incident.
South Korea’s Financial Services Commission (FSC), the country’s financial regulator, called for stronger cybersecurity measures after attacks on financial firms and government agencies. South Korea plans security checks of dozens of private-sector IT systems.
The Oct. 4 meeting and later inquiries into financial firms followed a Sept. 30 intrusion disclosed by Shinhan Bank.
