Y Combinator’s October 2026 crypto outlook names stablecoins, asset tokenization and AI-agent financial tools among six areas for founders to pursue. It says institutions, rather than consumers, led crypto applications for the first time in the past year, with practical financial needs driving the shift.

Examples of those practical financial needs include hedging oil-price risk and corporate cross-border transfers. The six-month agenda also covers blockchain financing for the AI industry; dollar and non-dollar stablecoins designed for specific markets; banks built around stablecoins; tokenized real-world assets; new trading platforms and interfaces; and AI-agent trading tools with related API infrastructure.

The outlook identifies shares, debt, commodities and property rights in homes as assets for tokenization. Separately, it says startup equity and securities valued below $10,000 could be issued on blockchain. Trading, lending and derivatives are among the services that may develop around those assets.

Y Combinator sees blockchain technology as a potential challenge to traditional stock exchanges, while stablecoins may challenge banking systems.
