Midnight and Sig Network Partner on Ethereum Privacy Integration

The stagenet integration supports deposits, Uniswap swaps, Aave supply and withdrawals to Ethereum addresses. Assets remain on Ethereum while user records are kept on Midnight.

The Midnight Foundation announced a partnership with Sig Network Wednesday, Oct. 28, to connect Midnight’s privacy system to Ethereum applications, with a stagenet integration designed to keep user records private while transactions execute on Ethereum.

A Midnight contract checks user requests and controls the Ethereum account used for a transaction. Sig Network’s threshold signing system creates the signature through joint authorization by multiple signers. Ethereum executes the transaction, and its outcome returns to Midnight.

Assets remain on Ethereum, so the design uses neither a bridge nor wrapped tokens. Transaction amounts and timing are still visible on the public network. Midnight is designed to hold individual balances and activity records outside the public transaction record. The privacy feature applies to user records while Ethereum transactions remain visible.

The current stagenet integration supports deposits, swaps on Uniswap, supplying assets to Aave and withdrawals to Ethereum addresses. These examples pair user records held on Midnight with trading and lending actions that execute through Ethereum accounts.

The partnership builds on Midnight’s broader Nightmode approach for keeping records shielded while applications interact with public blockchains. The design also gives application teams options for compliance controls and selective disclosure. The Oct. 20 Ethereum demo already showed deposits, Uniswap swaps, Aave supply and withdrawals. The new development is the announced partnership with Sig Network around that Ethereum connection.

“Privacy and accountability can sit in the same application,” said Gareth Christian-Lim, director of growth at the Midnight Foundation.

The integration remains at the stagenet stage, and no mainnet date has been announced. The integration remains under construction. The production signer configuration for the stagenet integration has not been detailed.
