The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has launched a service to mint digital representations of real-world assets, bringing a central U.S. securities-market infrastructure provider into tokenization.

The service is live and enables the minting of tokenized representations of real-world assets. Those securities are intended to retain the ownership rights and investor protections associated with traditional shares, linking the digital format with protections established for conventional share ownership.

DTCC provides clearing and settlement services for securities transactions, placing its new offering within infrastructure that supports U.S. markets. The company is bringing blockchain technology into its operations with the goal of improving efficiency and accessibility in asset management.

The launch adds to institutional activity around tokenized financial products. BlackRock has introduced tokenized money market funds, while DTCC's new service applies tokenization to representations of real-world assets. The two examples involve distinct areas of finance: DTCC's real-world asset representations and BlackRock's money market funds.
