The design uses hash-based cryptography, including leanXMSS keys and VRF tree roots. Replacing a key would take at least one epoch and include replay protection.

Ethereum’s EIP-8450 proposes a post-quantum public-key registry for validators, outlining how keys could be registered and replaced; the proposal remains a draft and has not been deployed.

The design uses hash-based cryptography, including leanXMSS keys and VRF tree roots. An update to the draft registry described in earlier TokenPost coverage specifies that a validator’s BLS signing key authorizes registration and replacement of post-quantum keys.

Replacing a key would be delayed by at least one epoch, and the proposal includes replay protection. The update was timestamped 12:02 a.m. ET Thursday (04:02 UTC) Oct. 29.
