China’s average daily token-call volume topped 500 trillion by July 2026, more than 5,000 times its early-2024 level, Tencent Senior Executive Vice President and CEO of the Cloud and Smart Industries Group 汤道生 said.

At a keynote in Shenzhen, he cited average daily volume of 100 billion at the start of 2024. He linked the increase to rapid growth in AI applications and described AI as an emerging source of productivity.

汤道生 pointed to Tencent’s Workbuddy agent as an example of workplace AI. He said applications are extending beyond routine document collaboration into business analysis, operations, market research, and marketing planning and execution.

He said using AI agents to improve employee productivity has become necessary. Companies need AI to make more accurate decisions and execute faster to strengthen their competitiveness, he said, warning that businesses that fail to advance risk falling behind.

Token-call volume is distinct from computing capacity, a distinction explored in earlier coverage of China’s AI token-use claims.
