Stellar Wallet Freighter Rebrands as Varial and Adds App Directory

The Stellar Development Foundation has renamed its Freighter wallet Varial and added a Discover directory for connecting to applications on the Stellar network. Stellar is an open-source blockchain for financial products and services.

Discover gives users an in-wallet directory of Stellar applications. Varial also supports token swaps, price charts and NFT management. Its roadmap includes swap routing and an Earn feature, starting with Blend. Users will be able to open and track decentralized finance positions from the wallet.

Varial plans to develop deposit addresses with Lightsail, a Stellar-native team. The addresses would let users send USD Coin (USDC) from Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) wallets to Stellar accounts, providing a deposit route from EVM networks into Stellar.

Separately, Stellar’s real-world asset value rose 5.5-fold in a year, while about 0.1% of those assets were used as DeFi collateral.
