Chainalysis has attributed a $6.4 billion Binance hack to North Korea, adding a named suspect to a security incident that has left withdrawals suspended and billions of dollars in crypto frozen onchain.

Binance estimates the impact at $6.3 billion and says about $3 billion has been frozen onchain. The $6.4 billion figure associated with Chainalysis’ attribution and Binance’s impact estimate are separate assessments; the frozen total describes assets locked onchain rather than the incident’s full impact.

Tether has separately said it froze more than $1.567 billion in USDT connected to the suspected Binance hack. That figure describes a specific freeze action and may overlap with Binance’s broader $3 billion total, so the amounts should not be added together.

Binance’s withdrawal suspension remains in place. The incident’s reported figures therefore cover distinct points: Chainalysis’ attribution, Binance’s estimate of the impact and the amount of crypto frozen onchain. Freezing funds does not by itself mean the full amount of the hack has been recovered.
