Gate founder 韩林 has outlined a proposed Vault custody design that divides key control among three parties, preventing any one of them from moving funds alone.

The design would place one key share on a user’s device, one with Gate and one with a disaster-recovery provider. The complete private key would not be kept in a single location.

Withdrawals would face a 48-hour delay, during which users could freeze a transfer. If a user lost a device or forgot a backup password, Gate and the recovery provider could help restore access after identity verification, 韩林 said.

If Gate’s service were unavailable, users could combine the share on their device with the provider’s share and use open-source tools to recover assets. 韩林 said Gate was willing to share the design and issues raised by real user scenarios for discussion with other companies.
