Monero (XMR) Stressnet v3.1 Adds Faster Wallet Scans and Relay Protections

The beta also changes how Carrot outputs are handled. It runs on a separate test network and does not activate an upgrade on Monero’s mainnet.

Monero developer j-berman published beta stressnet version 3.1 on Oct. 26, adding faster wallet scans and denial-of-service protections as testing continues for a proposed privacy upgrade on a separate network.

The build is marked as a pre-release for the FCMP++ and Carrot beta stressnet. Its changes include denial-of-service protections for transaction relay and wallet-side tree building, along with faster wallet scanning. The release also updates seed nodes.

Version 3.1 changes how the test network handles Carrot outputs, keeping them out of ring signatures. In the release, j-berman described a detectable inflation vulnerability during the 24 hours after the stressnet’s initial hard fork. The vulnerability description concerns that test network and post-fork period.

FCMP++ remains a proposal under development. Its design would replace Monero’s ring signatures with a proof covering a much larger set of possible outputs.

The release compares a current proof involving one of 16 Monero outputs with a proposed proof spanning more than 150 million outputs across the blockchain. Those figures describe the proof’s potential scope, not the number of people running the stressnet. The beta stressnet’s anonymity set is expected to reach only dozens at best.

Several functions remain unfinished in the beta: hardware-wallet support, multisig and transaction proofs are not yet functional. That marks the build as an ongoing test of the proposed system rather than a completed privacy upgrade.

The v3.1 build follows Monero’s v3.0 stressnet release in September. The beta stressnet remains separate from mainnet, and v3.1 does not activate FCMP++ on Monero’s main network.
