Suspected North Korea-linked hacks accounted for 89% of reported crypto hack losses in 2026, up from 15% in 2021.

From 2021 through Oct. 29, 2026, hacks suspected of North Korea links accounted for $13.24 billion of $22.34 billion in total reported crypto hack losses. The cumulative totals span nearly six years, while the 89% figure measures the share for 2026.

The average loss per suspected North Korea-linked hack was $185.65 million in 2026, compared with $50.65 million in 2021. That average compares losses per incident in the two years; it is separate from the cumulative totals covering the full period.

TokenPost has previously examined the difference between publicly confirmed attributions and broader estimates in its review of North Korea-linked crypto theft figures. The figures here track reported crypto hack losses through Oct. 29, 2026, and show both a larger share of annual losses and a higher average loss per suspected hack than in 2021.
