Trump declined to confirm North Korean responsibility. Chainalysis and TRM Labs have attributed the attack to North Korea-linked group TraderTraitor.

President Donald Trump said the United States is investigating whether North Korea was behind the reported theft from Binance, leaving responsibility unconfirmed at the government level.

Asked whether North Korea carried out the attack, Trump replied, “We don’t know,” and said the U.S. was investigating. He also said Binance had told him the situation was under control.

Chainalysis and TRM Labs have attributed the incident to TraderTraitor, a hacker group linked to North Korea. Their assessment is distinct from an official U.S. finding: The U.S. government has not formally attributed the attack to North Korea.

That distinction between an analyst assessment and a government attribution is material in this case: Trump’s answer stopped short of confirming North Korea’s role, even as he described an investigation underway. His response also did not reject the attribution; it said the U.S. does not know and is investigating. Binance’s assurance addresses the reported situation’s status but does not identify the attacker.
