Circle Publishes Guide to CCTP Transfers for Non-USDC Tokens
The guide outlines native and custom-token paths, with different transfer controls and blockchain support.

Circle published a developer guide on Oct. 30 explaining how issuers can connect ERC-20 tokens other than USDC to its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) across supported blockchains.
Issuers have two options: deploy a new native cross-chain token or configure an existing ERC-20 token as a custom CCTP connection. The native-token route uses a burn-and-mint process, which burns tokens on one network before minting them on another.
Custom connections can use burn-and-mint or lock-and-unlock on the token’s home blockchain. Transfers to remote blockchains use burn-and-mint. Issuers retain control of settings for custom connections, including ownership, operators, pause permissions, rate limits and per-transfer limits. For custom connections, Circle cannot take over those controls.
The supported networks are Ethereum, Avalanche, OP Mainnet, Arbitrum, Base, Polygon PoS and Arc Testnet. CCTP transfers for non-USDC tokens do not support non-EVM networks such as Solana.
