The U.S. Secret Service is working with Circle and other private-sector partners to trace and recover funds stolen from Binance while investigators try to identify those responsible.

Agency investigators are working around the clock with the companies to identify, freeze and trace the funds and pursue their recovery. The effort combines work with private companies on the stolen funds and coordination with prosecutors and law enforcement to identify those responsible.

The Secret Service is also coordinating with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and law enforcement partners to identify the cybercriminals involved and bring them to justice. This adds a criminal investigation to the effort to trace and recover the assets. The two priorities are recovery of the stolen money and identification of those behind the cybercrime.

The agency said the investigation remains in its early stages and that it will provide more information when appropriate as the work continues.
