THORChain Halts 10 Networks After Ethereum Reorg Leaves 10 ETH Gap
A deposit was credited from a block later removed from Ethereum. The user returned the ETH, restoring the vault’s solvency.

THORChain halted trading across 10 blockchain networks after an Ethereum reorganization led a vault to send 10 Ether (ETH) without receiving the matching deposit, creating a solvency shortfall.
The incident occurred Saturday, Oct. 31, at 7:34 a.m. ET (11:34 UTC) and lasted one block. A 10 ETH deposit appeared in a block Ethereum later removed, but THORChain had already credited it. The swap then missed its price limit and was refunded, leaving the vault to pay out ETH against a deposit that did not settle on Ethereum’s canonical chain.
THORChain’s automated solvency check detected the deficit and stopped ETH swaps. Node operators halted ETH transaction signing about two minutes later, then widened the pause to other networks as a precaution. The user later returned the 10 ETH, restoring the vault’s solvency.
Trading remained active on AVAX, BASE, RUNE and XRPL; ATOM, BCH, BSC, BTC, DOGE, ETH, LTC, SOL, TRON and ZEC remained halted. Core developers are working on fixes, and node operators will decide when each network is safe to reopen.
