CZ Thanks Secret Service After Binance Hack Funds Are Partly Frozen
Binance estimated the attack’s impact at about $6.3 billion and said about $3 billion had been frozen through combined partner efforts.

The Secret Service’s freeze announcement drew a thank-you from Binance founder Changpeng Zhao after the Oct. 29 attack.
Zhao wrote, “You acted within minutes to help track and freeze stolen funds, and the work continues.” The Secret Service said it is continuing the investigation with the FBI, IRS Criminal Investigation and Justice Department offices. It did not disclose how much was frozen.
Binance estimated the attack’s impact at roughly $6.3 billion and placed the hot-wallet breach at about 4:05 p.m. ET Oct. 29 (20:05 UTC). Binance’s 3:33 p.m. ET Oct. 30 update (19:33 UTC) put the on-chain amount frozen at about $3 billion, combining work by law enforcement, blockchain intelligence firms, asset issuers and industry partners. That figure covered combined partner efforts, not a Secret Service-only total.
The FBI attributed the theft of more than $6 billion in virtual assets from Binance to North Korea and named the activity “TraderTraitor.” The bureau said investigators observed the stolen assets being converted mainly into Ether (ETH).
