Goldman Sachs has narrowed access to advanced AI coding systems in updated internal guidance, limiting use to engineers while exempting Strats, employees whose work spans trading, quantitative research and software engineering.

The October update followed a review of productivity and risk management. For several months, the bank had allowed employees to use Anthropic’s Claude Code and Microsoft’s GitHub at work.

Traders had used the systems to monitor customer trading flows and market changes, model positions, and produce text and graphics.

Goldman Sachs also restricted Hong Kong employees’ use of Anthropic’s Claude earlier this year.
