Horizen Sets Nov. 4 Deadline for Assets on Its Layer 3 Network

The DAO plans to return ZEN and qualifying Ether after a review period, while bridged USDC.e must be moved separately.

Horizen users have until 8 a.m. ET Nov. 4 (13:00 UTC) to move assets off its Layer 3 network before a snapshot sets eligibility for recovery on Base.

The snapshot will record balances and staking positions across Horizen’s L3. The Horizen DAO plans to publish it for a weeklong public review before returning Horizen (ZEN), including unclaimed staking rewards, to the same address on Base. The DAO expects distributions in the second half of November. The record will determine which balances qualify under each asset’s terms.

The return terms vary by asset. Ether (ETH) balances above 0.001 ETH qualify, while balances below that amount will not be returned. The plan leaves the treatment of exactly 0.001 ETH unspecified. Bridged USD Coin (USDC.e) is excluded because Stargate operates the token.

Horizen directs users to Stargate to move ZEN or USDC.e and to its native bridge for Ether. Ether withdrawals must be started before the Nov. 4 cutoff, though they may take about two weeks to complete on Base. Users who cannot withdraw from a Safe multisig or another smart contract wallet are advised to contact Horizen’s security team to coordinate.

Base scheduled its Denim upgrade for Thursday, Nov. 5, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. ET (18:00–20:00 UTC). Base expects its mainnet to remain operational during the two-hour window. Horizen says its OP Stack L3 may stop including user transactions about 40 minutes after activation. Horizen says it reproduced the issue on Base Sepolia and its infrastructure provider found no fix.

L3 staking rewards ended Oct. 25, and Horizen advised stakers to withdraw and claim them. Its planned return includes unclaimed ZEN staking rewards, but users still need to follow the asset-specific terms and bridge deadlines.

Horizen says it is shifting the ecosystem’s primary activity to Base because its privacy-focused projects do not require dedicated L3 blockspace. ZEN became an ERC-20 token on Base in July 2025. “Base will become the home chain for the Horizen ecosystem,” Horizen said. The deadline to move assets remains 8 a.m. ET Wednesday, Nov. 4.
