Golf courses in Florida, Michigan, Maryland and Massachusetts are using autonomous mowers, including two mowers priced near $200,000 each at the Country Club of New Bedford, where staff continue to supervise the machines.

The club in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts, bought two autonomous mowers. Prices for autonomous electric mowers range from several thousand dollars to nearly $200,000 per unit.

Assistant Superintendent Walter Garcia said workers give the mowers directions and monitor their operation. “It’s pretty much like a Roomba. You don’t just let it go completely on its own,” Garcia said. Staff remain on hand to check that the machines run properly as they mow.
