On Nov. 2, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) enabled round-the-clock interbank settlement of tokenized deposit transactions in its EnsembleTX pilot, extending settlement beyond conventional operating hours.

The pilot has 12 participating banks and 20 industry participants. Banks use tokenized central bank money to settle the deposit transactions, allowing them to complete transfers at any hour.

EnsembleTX is the pilot phase of Project Ensemble. It began in November 2025 with real-value transactions involving tokenized deposits and digital assets in a controlled setting. At that stage, interbank settlement used Hong Kong’s real-time gross settlement system.

Recognised Dealers have also completed trial secondary-market trades in tokenized Exchange Fund Bills. Securities and Futures Commission Chief Executive Officer Julia Leung called the round-the-clock settlement capability “a significant step towards a more scalable tokenised market in Hong Kong.”

The HKMA plans to include regulated stablecoins in future trials soon.
