Consumers Should Check Crypto Recovery Services Before Paying
Tracing funds and recovering them are separate outcomes. A matching Bitcoin address alone does not guarantee repayment.
U.S. consumers weighing a crypto recovery service should verify who operates it and what work it promises before paying, because tracing funds and recovering them are separate outcomes.
Consumers should ask for the promised work in writing, understand the fees and find out what sensitive information the provider will access.
The distinction also matters when checking a recovery portal. In an earlier case involving the Coldcard exploit, a recovery portal let users check Bitcoin (BTC) addresses tied to the incident. A matching address did not guarantee repayment; claimants still had to establish ownership.
