French crypto journalist Grégory Raymond has named Fortuneo, the online banking arm of Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, as the target of an alleged $133 million crypto theft.

Raymond alleges attackers used fabricated identities that passed know-your-customer (KYC) checks to open accounts at Kraken and other crypto exchanges. They then sent funds from Fortuneo accounts to those exchange accounts using recipient names that matched the account holders, before converting the money to stablecoins and withdrawing it to external wallets.

Raymond said the $133 million represents only the portion visible on-chain and that total losses may be higher. Crédit Mutuel Arkéa has neither confirmed nor denied an attack.

Kraken began freezing related funds on Nov. 2. The exchange said its security systems were not breached and that no customer accounts were taken over by a third party.

ZachXBT earlier identified Crédit Mutuel Arkéa as a suspected victim in an attack on an EU institution involving more than $133 million. Fortuneo is Crédit Mutuel Arkéa's online banking brand.
