VMware announced vSphere Express on Nov. 4, a subscription virtualization product for organizations running systems with up to 128 cores. The offering includes tools for moving running virtual machines and restarting failed ones.

The product includes vMotion for moving running virtual machines and high availability for automatically restarting failed virtual machines. Organizations can run separate instances, but cannot manage them centrally.

The listed annual cost is $9,600 for up to 128 cores. The price does not decline for deployments using fewer cores.

Prashanth Shenoy, VMware’s vice president of product marketing for VMware Cloud Foundation, said the product followed customer feedback. “We started listening to a lot of our lower-end customers,” Shenoy said.
