Binance founder 赵长鹏 urged crypto companies to coordinate with AI labs, law enforcement and security experts, saying layered defenses are needed as attackers use social engineering, phishing and AI.

In an Oxford Union interview, he said the incident could have been prevented and that some internal employees did not follow basic operational security procedures.

The attackers spent about five to six months assembling a chain that used social engineering, phishing tied to job interviews and AI to find system weaknesses, he said.

He said AI is exposing more security problems in the near term, including amid what he described as a recent increase in attacks on crypto platforms and banks. He argued that exposing weaknesses could help make systems safer over time.

The industry cannot guarantee perfect security, he said, and should build layered defenses to respond to escalating attacks.
