Grok, xAI’s chatbot on X, called a dental office to ask whether it accepted a user’s insurance, adding a phone inquiry to examples of the AI handling routine health care tasks.

On Wednesday, Nov. 4, user @ArthurMacwaters wrote that Grok was speaking with a dental office to ask whether it accepted the user’s insurance. The user called the experience “incredible.” The post describes an inquiry about the practice’s acceptance of a plan, not a confirmation of the user’s eligibility or actual coverage. It does not say what information Grok shared during the call.

Another post, dated Oct. 15, described Grok searching online for a dentist that accepted the family’s insurance and arranging a visit for the user’s son through a browser. That account involved an online search and booking; the Nov. 4 example centered on a phone inquiry.

On Tuesday, Nov. 3, xAI founder Elon Musk described Grok as able to research doctors, place calls and schedule appointments in real time. The two user accounts describe contact with dental offices by phone or website. Neither describes a connection to an insurer’s eligibility database or dental practice software. The accounts also leave open whether the person on the phone knew they were speaking with an AI.
