LayerZero Pauses Cross-Chain Services After Reth State-Root Bug

The flaw may disrupt node syncing or produce incorrect proofs. Fixes are available in three client releases.

LayerZero paused parts of its off-chain infrastructure for some EVM networks after a state-root calculation flaw in the Reth execution client and its op-reth derivative raised the risk of node synchronization failures. The precaution delayed cross-chain messages on affected routes, but those messages were not lost.

Unpatched nodes may stop syncing or return incorrect state proofs through the eth_getProof method. Several OP Stack chains are among the affected networks.

Reth merged a code fix Nov. 3. Fixed releases include reth v2.10.0, op-reth v2.8.1 and Base node-reth v1.5.3. The flaw was a client correctness issue, not a known attack, and no funds had been lost at the time of disclosure. Node operators and RPC providers should upgrade to a fixed release.

Some protocols also paused deposits or cross-chain routing during the response. The disruption therefore includes both delayed messages and pauses imposed by individual protocols.
