Google plans to invest $17 billion in a Laramie County data center and pay all of its electricity costs, tying the company’s first Wyoming facility to a large power project.

Some of the facility’s electricity would come from a 702-megawatt natural gas plant that uses Bloom Energy fuel cells. Google would cover 100% of the power used by the data center.

An American Electric Power fuel-cell project near Cheyenne is planned to supply the proposed data center under a 20-year agreement. The project carries about $4 billion in planned investment.
